Testing your computer for problems

Hey guys I’m going to show you how to test your computer for heating issues. We will be using  two pieces of  software. The first one is called Core Temp, you can find that online, you got 32 bit or 64. So install that you actually don’t install it you can just put that folder up on your desktop. When you start that it’s going to give you this right here which is your processor’s temperatures. Right now you can see the range is 47/48, so we are not doing anything. Then the other thing we have is this little program here called StressMyPC.

And that gives you several options. Do you want to stress your CPU or you want to stress your hard drive? Maybe you want to stress the graphics card.Typically what we are doing here. Just the CPU and the graphics card. There is no need to run the hard drive. You open this up it’s pretty simple and just click on  it.  You are going to see this temperature from there and you know see that crank up.

Sometimes a visual inspection is needed

Now this program you can run it multiple times, that’s what it does right there. We’ve run some really high end computers that tried to really, really stress them out on purpose. This computer here probably just one time this is an i5 but it’s having issues with the fan. You can hear the fan running loud you see instantly. If it hits 100 degrees it is just going to shut off so basically it has got cooling issues. While the fan is working its dirty we’ve done an external cleaning but it’s still running super hot. So we are going to take this apart and give that fan and heat sink a deep cleaning we’ll do a thermal paste and we’ll come back to you and show you the results of that. Thanks for watching.

Run tests again

Alright guys, check it out we’re back with this Hp the one that was running super, super hot. We cleaned the heat sink, the fan internally so we took the computer apart and really got in there and give it good clean up. It is running 46/50 degrees just idling which is normal wasn’t really running hot on idle. So we’re going to be doing the same activities running the CPU and the graphics test and we’re going to kick that in. On the last video I was showing you it was hit up to 96 degrees which is 4 degrees really from shutting down…100 give or take it will cause the machine to shut down, so here we are basically doing the same exact thing.

We’re running the stress test, we’re using Core Temp you guys want to use that and try it for yourselves see how your computer is doing and then we are going to monitor here. It doesn’t take long to go up you know if the computer doesn’t have proper cooling it’s going to go up within 30 seconds to a minute. So as you can see there we’re at 79 and then back down, so maximum right there doing 79 we’re 96 so it’s dropped 17 degrees which is pretty good as you can see. So that’s your quick tutorial on how to check your temperature over here the stress test – how to stress out your computer.

Is your computer cool? See how you can tell.
