Upgraded CPU but No Video after install

Hi everybody, here we have a custom built gaming computer. So what happened here? The customer wanted to upgrade the CPU. He had a Ryzen 3 1200, and he purchased Ryzen 7 2700x. He then popped that in, and it didn’t work. Well, the PC powered up, but you got no video. So he brought it in to see what was going on and see what we could do.

So here’s a couple of tips for you today on this. If you’re going to upgrade your CPU, the first thing you want to do is look up the motherboard and get the full specs. Mainly in the manufacturer’s site, take a look at all the specified variations of what’s compatible with the CPU. So just because the socket is the same doesn’t mean that it’s fully compatible.

So that’s the first part that you want to get over. You know, maybe you go to Amazon and you look up a CPU, and it says it has the same socket. You order it now you think its good to go in, but sometimes it’s going to support it right away. In this case the bios was out of dated and needed to be updated to work with the newer CPU.

So if you do upgrade your CPU and you’re having any problems, take a look to make sure that the CPU is compatible. Also make sure that the BIOS is compatible or if it has to be upgraded. This is a pretty big upgrade. So I know the client is going to be happy gaming with this unit. And that’s what’s going on here today at PC 911.
